New Zealand
Honeyspooners
We didn’t get a chance to go on our honeymoon until two years after we were married. The benefit being that we were able to save up for longer and really take our time with deciding about where we wanted to go. We thought about going on your typical honeymoon-type of trip to somewhere where beaches and bikinis were in abundance. But then Brendon, in his matter-of-fact way, pointed out to me that, “Kell, you hate doing what everyone else does.” A few points before I continue.
- That is a fair point.
- He clearly knows me better than I know myself sometimes.
- How does he know what I want (or in this case what I don’t want) before I even make a decision?
Definitely glad I married him. But I digress.
After throwing around several ideas, slogging through many a google search, and of course Brendon checking and rechecking the weather (on the most accurate weather sites available, of course) to ensure that wherever we went would be within his optimal temperature range (insert small eye roll here), we finally landed on New Zealand.
The planning ensued and in typical Brendon fashion, he did an incredible job of planning. One of my favorite things about him is that he is an incredible planner. He will ask me for ideas, try to get a feel for what I want or am hoping for, then comes up with some sort of master list to make my literal dreams come true. By the time we were a week out from our trip, all of our campsites, Airbnbs, day hikes, and other aspects of our trip had been mapped out from start to finish. And of course complete with drive time and cost estimates, options for backup plans, and packing checklists. All I had to do was show up and not lose my passport (which of course I wouldn’t because he kept it with him 😂.)
Once we arrived, even before the end of the first day, I knew that it would be one of our most memorable trips yet. The beauty, the atmosphere, and even the small details about the country that made us feel at home. All of it truly blew us away. There is so much I want to share about every place we visited while we were there. But I’ll save that for later. Until then, hope you guys enjoy a snapshot of our time there in the little video B made :).
