Baby Boy Bauer

Our biggest adventure of all is on the horizon!

Pregnancy was something that we knew we would start planning for in the next few years, but far from being on our radar. It all started with me (Kelli) feeling faint and a little bit nauseous after a work out. A little bit of Tom Yum broth made the feeling abate so I didn't give it a second thought. Brendon instantly told me to take a pregnancy test. I was definitely in denial but obliged. After the test returned positive, I panicked and bought an entire box of tests and proceeded to test myself twice a day until I ran out of tests. Positive – positive – positive . . . You get the point.

I immediately made an appointment with an Ob/Gyn physician because in my mind, there was no way I was pregnant. Cut to that appointment one week later and I found myself having an out of body experience as I stared at the ultrasound screen. "There's the heartbeat! Congratulations, you're almost seven weeks pregnant!" I can't really describe the exact emotions I felt in that moment. Was it joy? Fear? Probably just shock despite the half dozen positive pregnancy tests.

The next few months were filled with long naps on days off, frequent vomiting while I was awake, and a lot of kimchi and spicy food (this baby is definitely like his mama). And I have to admit that every step of the way I have felt both incredibly grateful, but also incredibly afraid. Both Brendon and I are people who like to be prepared. So I was shocked when he was much more laid back than I was about the drastic new life changes that were about to happen in a few months. But his more calm, reassuring demeanor definitely helped me to survive throughout this entire journey thus far.

The second trimester arrived and we started to tell our loved ones the good news! It definitely felt good to be able to share it with others. It makes you realize how many loving and caring people exist in the world. The outpouring of love and support has been incredible. The advice and guidance from new mothers to grandmothers who have been through it many a time – all of the wisdom has been beyond appreciated and truly invaluable!

The third trimester is upon us now and more life-changing news has arrived. Brendon received word that the Air Force will be moving us to Germany where he will be filling a position as the hand surgeon at Ramstein Air Base! Many adventures are ahead, but with a lot of prayer, a mountain of support, and definitely a lot of humor, we look forward to what the future holds!

If you'd like to mail a little love our way, our registry will remain open through July – after that we'll be moving overseas so you'll have to catch up with us on the other side of the Atlantic!
